You could all be probably guessing why I'm writing today on my blog! Well, it's because in a week from now, I'll be seeing the most epic metal band ever known as "Dream Theater"! I am so damn excited to see this band ever since I bought the tickets in January. If you don't know what Dream Theater sounds like, they're a mix of Rush, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Genesis, Judas Priest, Megadeth and YES. Here's a song below that was popular on the video game Rock Band 2, if you remember seeing and playing that game.
I first discovered Dream Theater back in late 2011, during one of their best songs. I nver did really listen to the full thing since Progressive wasn't my type then, since it went on for too long during it's soft part. I believe the song was "The Count of Tuscany". Back then, I didn't really have musical patience to sit through a 20 - 40 minute song, so I just changed to something else. Little did I know that song would eventually become one of my favorite songs by Dream Theater and of all time.
It wasn't until this mid-late 2013 when my friend told me how one of his friends originally a bassist in his band was a HUGE Dream Theater fan and wanted to do a cover of it, but he turned his friend's request down. I got super curious since that name rung a bell when I heard it and stumbled onto "Pull Me Under". It took me a few tries to listen, but I managed to get through it, and it became one of my favorites. Eventually I heard the entire album Images and Words, and I also enjoyed Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper, Another Day, Take The Time, Learning To Live, pretty much every song from that album! I needed to hear more songs from this band.
After that album listen, I decided to listen to Octavarium and enjoyed tracks such as "These Walls", "Octavarium", "I Walk Beside You", "The Root of All Evil" and "Panic Attack". Funny story is when I was listening to I Walk Beside You, my sister who was on the couch with me watching her TV show overheard how loud my headphones were and was curious to what I was listening to. I think she was thinking I was listening to Christian Metal. Panic Attack from that album is also popular for being on Rock Band 2. Don't believe me? Here's the song.
I eventually caught onto not just listening to those two albums, cause the first album I ever bought by Dream Theater was their most recent self titled album. I believe I bought that album when I just getting into this band. But I did buy Images and Words, A Dramatic Turn of Events, Metropolis Pt:2, and Octavarium soon after a few months, with Awake last month. I still need to buy A Change of Seasons, Falling Into Infinity, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Train of Thought, Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds & Silver Linings.
Dream Theater will be performing on March 20th, at Massey Hall in the big city of Toronto! I don't really have the closest seats, but I'll make sure to do that the next time I see them. Who knows? Maybe I'll get a meet-and-greet ticket and get to talk to John Petrucci for a few minutes and have a picture with him and James LaBrie, the singer. Did I mention that James LaBrie is Canadian? John Myung, Jordan Rudess and Mike Mangini would be awesome to meet as well. Next time, I'll probably bring my friend Emily with me to see them and Rush.
I would enjoy seeing Dream Theater playing a couple of my favorite songs since I know they pull off a great show every single time. I would want them to play these songs if they can:
The Dance of Eternity, The Count of Tuscany, A Nightmare To Remember, Illumination Theory, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, The Great Debate, Metropolis Part 1, Breaking All Illusions, As I Am, Learning To Live, The Enemy Inside, Home, Forsaken, The Dark Eternal Night, Honor Thy Father, The Looking Glass, Beneath The Surface, These Walls, Status Seeker, The Glass Prison and Panic Attack.
Alright, catch you all later... and Don't Cross The Crooked Step!
